Like all schools, we have a Board of Governors who oversee the running of the school.

Our 12 Governors are chosen in various ways:

  • Two Parent Governors – elected by parents
  • One LEA Governor – put forward by the Local Education Authority
  • One Staff Governor – elected by the staff
  • Five Co-Opted Governors –people from the local community and businesses with links to the school who are invited to be Governors
  • One Headteacher – automatically a member.

Governors normally serve for four years.

The Chair and Vice-Chair are elected at the first meeting of the school year, and normally serve for at least one year.

What the Governors do

Governors are sometimes described as ‘critical friends’. They offer advice and suggestions aimed at helping the school improve.

Governors are responsible for areas including:

  • standards of achievement
  • curriculum development
  • spending
  • personnel
  • admissions
  • bullying
  • inspection
  • provision for children with special needs.

Within the board, committees of Governors take responsibility for particular areas. Governors normally serve on two or more committees, according to their skills, expertise or interest.

Governors also review and contribute to school policy and practice, and help write the School Evaluation Form and School Development Plan.

The Governors usually meet twice a term, with committee meetings whenever needed and at least once a term.

We also have Link Governors, who take responsibility for certain subjects or areas of school life and work with the relevant teachers.
