Useful information about the health and Medical policy at school.

Medical examinations

Reception children will see a nurse when they first start school. The nurse will also check any child who is referred to the Special Needs Coordinator or a teacher.

Parents/carers are always invited to attend full medical examinations.

Dentist

The school dentist examines the children’s teeth from time to time.

We will tell you about each examination before it happens, and also let you know if the dentist recommends any treatments.

Headlice

Please check your child’s hair for headlice regularly, and tell the school if you find any unwelcome visitors.

Headlice are extremely common, especially in primary schools, and can spread quickly. We rely on your help to keep them under control.

If your child does have headlice, they must be treated immediately. You can learn about treatments at Netdoctor

Medicines in school

Please give children medicines at home whenever you can.

If your child needs to take a medicine three times a day, you can give them one dose before school, one after school and one at night.

On the rare occasions where children need medication administered during the day, it should be left with the Deputy Head with clear instructions. You will also need to come to the School Office and fill out a permission form.

Asthma inhalers can be kept either in the classroom or in the medical room and must be clearly labelled with the child’s name.

Emergency contacts

At the beginning of the school year, we ask all parents/carers for emergency contact details (addresses and telephone numbers).

This information is vital, as we may need to contact you about your child’s health or wellbeing. If your details change – particularly your mobile number – please let the School Office know.

If your child becomes ill or gets injured and you are not available, the Headteacher will seek medical help and may take the child to hospital.

No smoking policy

Baden Powell is a totally non-smoking environment – both within the buildings and outside on school premises.

This policy also applies at social functions.
